Interactive apprenticeship

Interactive apprenticeship combines the concept of cognitive apprenticeship (which itself evolved from the predominant learning paradigm in the pre-industrial era) with the interactive connections available through the Internet. As a new player to an online game, I learn how to play GTA through an interactive apprenticeship with more skilled players.

Cognition can now be externalized through tools such as spell checkers and GPS. This can help move learning from a reproductive metaphor, where learning relied on memory  because the concrete nature of meaning-making relied on the acquisition of text, to a performative metaphor, where learning is supported by cognitive tools and meaning-making is interactively constructed in a community of practice which evaluates the performance.
